Water Memory

Water Memory is a project dedicated to Brookes’ childhood walks in her hometown Shrewsbury.

"The theory of water memory states that when you dissolve a substance in water, it still has the memory of the substance, no matter how many times you dilute the water afterwards."

This theory has been adapted into Water Memory by implying the water has captured Brookes’ memories and by returning she is reminded of past experiences. This project revolves around nostalgia and the reminiscing of revisiting a space. These themes have been adapted into Brookes’ photography by exploring the tension between herself and the once familiar walking routes. Like meeting a childhood friend for the first time in years. Following this series of photographs, Brookes handmade a zine which was displayed next to three images in the Shared Grounds exhibition, Ancoats, May 2024.
